Block Plan Series
“…The dynamic drawing dances across the gallery walls, transforming from a two-dimensional flattened plane into sculptural three-dimensional forms, spilling onto the floor, then climbing back onto the wall transmuting into a wire-frame drawing. Schoenstadt again pushes our perspectives of the world by presenting multiple versions of the same reality.
Schoenstadt’s Block Plan Series: Provo was inspired by a spring site visit to Provo, where she explored the city, researched the history and stories of Provo, and spent time with community members, BYU students, and professors. Inspired by the cityscape and also BYU's acclaimed Center for Animation, the artist had her drawing translated into wire frame, a basic tool used in creating digital animation.
“Kim’s installation creates an exciting hybrid world of a real and imagined Provo landscape,” said Jeff Lambson, the museum’s Curator of Contemporary Art. “Juxtaposing and superimposing drawn images of iconic buildings and architectural features with geometric patterns, she creates a visual experience that defies gravity and familiar vistas while exploring Provo across time, space, and memory.”An army of local volunteers helped Schoenstadt create her ambitious artwork.” -Excerpt from Press Release
